A CNC mill supposed to create upgrade parts for it self.

A moving portal was chosen over moving the workpiece as it (in theory) allows for a larger work area compared to the machine footprint.
It does however increase the length of the "chain" of moving parts that may flex, reducing the overall stiffness.

When I imagined/designed the mill in my head I always expected the moving portal needed reinforcement as it is a box which has little strength on its own.
I therefore envisioned the legs being replaced by milled MDF once the machine was complete.

I also envisioned the Z-axis going through the X-axis to reduce the torque on the X-axis.
This did however prove somewhat impractical and was dropped.

The mounting holes for the Z-axis are placed all wrong. They are located inside the Z-axis which is rather compact, but impossible to tighten without having to grip the screw by its threads!

However as I'm currently designing another mill I haven't fixed this.
